*November 25, 2009* His late father, Kannada filmdom’s legendary icon, 'Annavru' Dr Rajkumar is his role model and still lives in his heart, says Puneet Rajkumar, currently one of the leading stars in Sandalwood. Clearly in awe of his father, who is his inspiration Puneet says that he is following in the footsteps of Rajkumar and most of all loved his humble nature and endearing smile. Though Puneet cannot be compared to his father, one meeting is sure to convince that the actor has inherited the same smile and humble personality. Thanks to Daya Kirodian, one of the organizing committee members of Karnataka Sangha, Daijiworld got the opportunity meet and chat with this 34-year-old young Kannada actor, who was here as one of the guests at the World Kannada Cultural Convention organized by Karnataka Sangha Dubai on November 20 and 21, successfully. Kannada Movie Premier in Dubai Though Puneeth is a regular visitor to Dubai, it is for the first time after 18 years that he attended a public function. He recalls that it was in 1991 he first visited Dubai with his legendary father. He was too young at the time. He expressed his surprise at the very conducive atmosphere here for Kannada movies and wanted to know why no Kannada movies are premiered here. "I heard that lots of Telugu movies are premiered here, but why not Kannada? I am sure Kannada audiences outnumber Telugu audiences here. I am seriously thinking of releasing my next Kannada movie here. People love Kannada here and love Kannada movies too. I am confident that after passing the initial hurdles, many Kannada producers and directors will come forward to release Kannada movies, Puneet added on a serious note. "With strengthened Kannada associations, audiences and media like Daijiworld and Radio Spice, one need not make marathon efforts to premiere Kannada movies here" he said. "In the United States of America lots of Kannada movies are released. AKKA, the premier Kannada organization wonderfully supports such initiatives. As far as popularity of Kannada is concerned, UAE stands next only to USA. Australia too has a good number of audiences. My movie, Akash was already successfully released there, he said. From Lohit to Puneet He was a child prodigy and had won a national award as a child artiste for the movie 'Bettada Hoovu' in 1986. He was then popularly known as Master Lohit Rajkumar, which was his original name. 'Kanadante Mayavadanu' sung by the star in the 1982 movie, Chalisuva Modagalu is immensely popular even today after over 25 years of its release. "I really do not know why my name was changed from Lohit to Puneet. I think you need to ask my mother about this," says Puneet with a smile. He agreed to the query that it could well have been a move taken as per his horoscope. It was in 1985 that he was renamed as Puneet Rajkumar. As a child artiste, he acted in more than 12 movies. Entry as Hero Puneeth made a stunning entry into Sandawood in 2002 through Appu in a lead role which proved to be his ideal launching pad as it went on to be a super hit. His next two movies, Abhi and Veera Kannadiga released in 2003 and 2004, respectively too set the box office ringing establishing him as one of the most bankable heroes in Sandalwood. He is said to be particularly choosy about the script. So far, Puneet known as Power Star has acted in about 11 films with him as solo lead. His recent release, Raj, the showman was rated a flop both by the media and critics. But Puneet defers with this verdict and says that though the film may not have created the required media hype, I must say its box office collections have definitely proved that it is a hit. Yet, some section of the media has given a thumbs down to the movie dubbing it a flop, which I do not advocate, Puneet clarifies. Puneet is an exceptionally good dancer. For the query, "At the moment you are a top dancing movie star in Kannada, do you agree?" he says, “Sir, I am absolutely not. My brother Shivanna (Shiv Rajkumar) is my hero, and will always remain a star dancer, a notch high above all. But its true that I love to dance, but I do not want a tag that I am the best dancer in Kannada film industry today. As far as dance is concerned, I drew a lot of inspiration from pop king, Michael Jackson, adds Puneet. 'Ram', home production is his next project. It is almost complete and thereafter he will be busy with other three projects namely 'Jacky' and ‘Prithvi'. Another project is yet to be named. He is immensely satisfied as an actor, but says it is a constant learning process. He mostly acts in his home projects, which is looked after by his elder brother Raghavendra Rajkumar and his mother Parvathamma Rajkumar. 'Mungaru Male' Controversy Mungaru Male is one of the biggest hits in the recent years as far as box office collections and audience popularity is concerned. Though Puneet admits it is true, but rejects the talk that Mungaru Male is the all time hit movie in Kannada filmdom. "When you compare the movies released in last two to three years, Mungaru Male is definitely a huge hit. But I must say, Om, my brother Shiv Rajkumar’s movie is sure the biggest hit in the last 20 years. It stood at the top for many years and not for a year or two. However, Mungaru Male is a very good movie and a new star Ganesh emerged from the movie. Puneet admits that, director of Mungaru Male offered him the lead role and that he rejected the same that he did not the fit the role. He denies the allegations leveled against him that the he refused the role as he did not want to act against rank newcomer Pooja Gandhi. “I have no regrets for rejecting the role. Probably the movie would not have had become such a huge hit, If I had agreed to do the role. Perhaps it turned out to be a huge hit as the lead role was played by Ganesh, he analyzes and adds that Ganesh did a great job in the movie. Puneeth with his wife Ashwini His Dreams for Filmdom Puneet dreams of setting up his own studio in Bangalore and also feels that there are no proper training institutes available in the state for young aspiring actors. He predicts a better future for Kannada movies despite tough competition from movies made in other languages. "Year 2009 has been bad for Kannada film industry with a marathon 120 movies released so far. The audience have more or less remained the same. Cricket matches too affect movie shows, but if we compete and beat Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam movies, then we have no fear of domination by the outsiders. The recent IT revolution in Bangalore city has had a lot of impact on movies that are released. More and more Hindi and movies of the other languages have found encouraging audiences here. Meanwhile, it is heartening that Kannada movies are still patronized by the loyal fan following which has not diminished, he added. Though 'Appaji' late Dr Rajkumar is everything for him, late Shankar Nag too was one of his favourite heroes. To polish his acting skills, he watches a lot of foreign movies made in languages such as Enlgish, Italian, French, German and others. "I never watch my own movies for I always think that I would have performed better,” he says honestly. Though he sang for couple of his movies, he nurses no passion for singing. "In one way, I can say I was 'forced' to sing for it does not fascinate me as much. Moreover, I am surprised that the songs sung by me like "Taliban" in movie Appu is one of the big hits. I want to concentrate fully on acting in movies," he stresses. ’Sampathige Saval', late Rajkumar’s movie is Puneet’s favourite movie and the song "Yaare Koogadali" is his favourite number. Duniya fame Vijay’s upcoming film Shankar IPS is about a strong police officer. Vijay plays a Police Officer in movie Shankar IPS and he is making conscious efforts to change his looks to give a feel to the character. So he is doing two hour workouts every day for the same. Bangalore based model Catherine is the heroine and she plays a glamorous role.Another model is making her debut in Kannada films. Catherine Tresa, the Bengaluru-based model is now acting with Vijay in the action-based thriller Shankar IPS.
“I have modeled for Nalli Silks, Chennai Silks, Fast Track and Josco Jewellers. I have also shot for Srikantadatta Wodeyar’s Maharaja Calendar and participated in ramp shows across different cities,” says Catherine who’s excited about her first Kannada film. She feels that Shankar IPS will provide her the perfect platform to prove her talent as an actress.
Glamorous Catherine is born to Malayali parents and was brought up in Dubai. She is now staying in Bengaluru. The damsel plays the role of a good looking bright girl who wants to win a beauty pageant and help the needy. “But politics robs her the opportunity of taking part in the pageant and that’s when the hero helps her,” says Catherine. Incidentally, she was one of the tenfinalists in the Miss India contest last year.
Talking about the sequence where she has to wear a swim suit in the film, Catherine says that it is not a big deal as every other Kannada heroine is wearing a swim suit these days. “I am wearing it because it is part of the story. Every beauty pageant contestant has to participate in the swim suit category. I think I can carry it off well,” she says, adding, “We have a tough cop playing the central character and we needed a colourful background to project the heroine. We also wanted the hero to be projected as a person who helps people and we chose the modeling industry to create such a background.” International body builder Kitty is helping actor Vijay in getting a six-pack for the film

ಬ್ಯುಸಿನೆಸ್ ಮಾನ್ ಆಗಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀಮುರಳಿ (ಶ್ರೀಹರಿ) ಮದುವೆಗಾಗಿ ಹಣ ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮದುವೆಯ ನಂತರ ಮಾಡೋದನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಗೂ ಮುನ್ನ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು ಎನ್ನೋದು ಶ್ರೀಹರಿಯ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತ. ಆದರೆ, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವವನು ಅವನ ಗೆಳೆಯ ನವೀನ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣ. ನವೀನ್‌ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹುಡುಗರ ಹುಚ್ಚು.

ಹೀಗೊಂದು ದಿನ ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ರಾಧಿಕಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ (ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ) ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಮುರಳಿಯ ವಿವಾಹವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಓದು ಮುಗಿಯುವ ತನಕ ಒದಾಗುವುದು ಬೇಡವೆಂದು, ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿರುವಂತೆ ಆಕೆ ಷರತ್ತು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುವ ಗಂಡ ಶ್ರೀಹರಿ ಒಂಭತ್ತು ತಿಂಗಳು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಮತ್ತೂ ಮುಂದೂಡುವ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ನಿರ್ಧಾರದಿಂದ ಬೇಸರಗೊಂಡ ಅವನು ಪೂಜಾಗಾಂಧಿ (ಪೂಜಾ) ಜೊತೆ ಒಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಕಳೆಯಲು ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಮರುದಿನವೇ ಆಕೆಯ ಕೊಲೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ! ಇಲ್ಲಿವರೆಗೆ ಹಾಸ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕಥೆ ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿಂದ್ದಂತೆ ಸಸ್ಪೆನ್ಸ್ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿ ತಿರುವು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನವೀನ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಅಭಿನಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎರಡು ಮಾತಿಲ್ಲ. ಪೂಜಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮುರುಳಿ ಅಭಿನಯ ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮುಗಿದ ಮೇಲೂ ಕಿವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಂಯ್‌ಗುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೊದಲಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ನವೀನ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಯಾಳ್ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಕೊಂಚ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ನೀಡಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಸುಳ್ಳಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ? (ಪ್ರಶ್ನಾರ್ಥಕ ಚಿನ್ಹೆ) ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಕಾರಣಾಂತರಗಳಿಂದ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರ ನಿಂತೇಹೋಯಿತು. ತಮ್ಮ ಹೊಸ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಮುದ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಯಾವ ರೀತಿ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಚಿಂತನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಮುಳುಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ವಾರಗಳಿಂದ ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ರಹಸ್ಯ ತಯಾರಿಯೂ ನಡೆದಿದೆಯಂತೆ.

Eddelu manhunatha : movie review : Jaggesh rocks

Anarrative that keeps you hooked, dialogues that take you from one laughing bout to another, music that refuses to fade away and excellent performances by the lead actors, make Eddelu Manjunatha, as claimed by its makers, one of Jaggeshs best films ever.

The popular devotional song on the Lord of Dharmasthala has been used as the title of this film. No doubt, most people are wondering if this is the first devotional/mythological film of Jaggesh. But the presence of Jaggesh himself, the self-confessed lazy actor, confirms that Eddelu Manjunatha (Wake Up Manjunatha) is a comic take on work-shy sloths.
Manjunatha aka Manja is a lazy b** whose only obsession is to drink. He manages to dodge all sorts of responsibility but still manages to lead a life he alone is content with. How he does it is narrated in a series of flashbacks while he spends time locked up in a hotel room with a blind film director. The contrast between the hardworking blind director and Manja himself is subtly revealed.

Manjas narration of his life and the incidents that appear are hilarious. Meanwhile, Manjas wife who is looking for him rescues him and the director from the hotel. But the duo get locked up again in Manjas 10x12 ft home. Manjas wife makes one last attempt to get him a job, but he is as disdainful of work as ever. The last few minutes in the movie, Manja realises he has led a worthless existence.

The film is held together by the hilarious dialogues penned by Guruprasad. A few of them may seem vulgar but Jaggesh somehow manages to mouth them in a way that seems perfectly normal. Even what seems funny has a tinge of sarcastic comment on society, life and Kannada films. Tabala Nani, as the blind director, looks real and gives a commendable performance . And so does Yagna Shetty who appears without makeup throughout.

Music by Anoop Seelin is of top quality. But it is a pity that two of the songs are used as bits. Even in other places a little more money could have polished the visuals. The climax is a little preachy and the film is dialogue heavy. But like good films, Eddelu Manjunatha comes back to haunt long after you have seen it.

Yarivalu Yarivalu - After listening to this, you will feel that the female version of this song "Yaarivanu" was far better. The singing feels artificial as if the singer is making fun of the lyrics and tune..

Rangu Rangu - uh... finally some good music.. However, Ilayaraja struggles in this also.. But the song is good and has a soothing effect. This track gives a pleasant feeling.

Three friends go in search for some peace in their life. In their search they move out to a village where they find a totally different ambience and also different type of people. Ganesh is outstanding in the role of Gani and as earlier said he is thoroughly enjoyable when he speaks his one liners. And even in emotional sequences he has got ample space to prove his mettle. It is up to the script writers to provide him opportunities to go several steps ahead as an actor. Diganth surprises you with his spontaneity.Rajesh Krishna gives a silent but effective performance. Ananth Nag is brilliant in a hunter's role and comes out best in emotional sequences. Rangayana Raghu is best as ever, is a perfect choice for the role. Daisy Bopanna is makes a deep mark again. She fits into the different role. Young Bhavana Rao and Neetu has also been quite good for their roles. Padmaja Rao, Sudha Belawadi have sparkled in their given opportunities.

Gaalipata scores a ton in the technical department. Randy's camera work stumps the audience with its brilliant capturing of the spectacular locations. Randy scales new heights as a cinematographers in his work in the mountainous Kodachadri hills and while showing the falls in its ferocious best. Harikrishna's music rocks in the film and " Minchaagi Neenu Baralu' has been the topper. Suresh Ars editing work is perfect.

Mano murthy unhappy with mungaru male tunes being used in vaana

Bangalore, Jan 3 (IANS) Popular Kannada music director Mano Murthy is contemplating legal action against the producer and the music director of 'Vaana' for 'unabashed plagiarisation of original tunes' and denial of credit to the original composer.

Murthy alleges that four of his original tunes for blockbuster 'Mungaru Male' have been used for Telugu film 'Vaana', produced and directed by M.S. Raju. The Kannada composer is sore because the makers didn't bother to give him credit for the tunes.

The audio and CD albums of the songs, released recently, do not have his name on the cover. The credit is given instead to Telugu music director Karunakar.

Murthy says he felt humiliated about the omission of his name in the audio publicity material.

'I don't want money from the producers who have used my musical compositions. But I think they should have given me credit for all the efforts I had made to create the original tunes,' an upset Murthy told IANS.

'I am told all these tunes have become popular in Telugu also,' he added.

The four tunes are those for 'Anisuthide yaako indu', 'Onde ondu saari', 'Mungaru male', and 'Ivanu geleyanalla'.

This is not the first time that a filmmaker has been accused of using tunes without giving credit to the creator. Some time ago, music director S.A. Raj Kumar also expressed his unhappiness over alleged denial of credit for many of his tunes used in Kannada films by many other composers.

According to Mr.Bhat this film has been shot in such a locations where nobody has dared to step-in in the past like " Shinsha , Kodachadri.." and nearby places.

This film has some locations which were so much beutifully shot..that audience will give a standing ovation ..says a jubilient Bhat.
